Rock gods  NEWS

(Contains occasional swear words)

17/09/07

Hey news is just like busses  nothing for ages then two at once.  The final standings on each list is posted along with the  voters comments.

Bar that its pretty much all done and dusted only  the arguing over who's missing who should be higher why the fuck did they get voted for ect ect.  Well  yeah that's what its all about really get the fans talking about the bands and artists there mad about, and to  give some other lesser known bands and artists a plug so you can go give them a listen and comment on them.  It doesn't matter if your fav's come top middle or bottom so long as you think they rock that's the main thing.  Lots of bands say they are only in it for the music (mm don't suppose millions of pounds makes all that difference eh?)  BUT that is exactly what it's all about the music.

Finally thanks a million to anyone who voted, emailed, argued, took the piss, add a link, plugged the site on radio, web, mag, website what ever cheers and KEEP ON FUCKIN ROCKIN!

15/09/07

Well that's all folks yeah its the end of the survey, well end of the voting anyway, still some votes to be added to the database but hopefully the whole lists will be complete by Monday 17th.  Still a lot of work to do as far as band info goes but will post the list when its complete and fill in the blanks later. Also still some work to do on the users comments again will post the first batch hopefully on Monday.

Still plenty of time to get any Links added if you want as the site will be online for at least another year so everyone can check out the list then check out any bands and artists they don't know.

21/08/07

Been a while since last update on things but that doesn't mean that nothing has been happening, far from it.  Been busy re-promoting the survey here there and everywhere and have had by far the most votes in the last month or so.  Yeah and its not so long now till the end cant hardly believe its nearly a year since I started this mayhem.  Website has had so may hits lately its fucked up the hit counter, its pretty much right but has stuck a few times.  Still plenty of spaces on the links page if you want one.  The results of the survey will be online for a least another year so you will get the use of your link.  As there is so many votes, (I'm miles behind already everyone say ahhh!) it will probably be a while before I get to posting the final results and also the band info but the voting will stop on the 15th of September.   Don't think there is any point in posting an up to date list just now as you have to go well down the list to find any changes.  Bands and artists in the top 30-50 of each category are light years ahead of the rest just now.

A worthy mention for Mr PG Proby?  Who well I must admit I'd never heard of him then who am I?  He certainty does have plenty of loyal fans (or is that just a good bunch of teamers?) and was well voted for in the past 5 or so weeks.  But nah your not going to make it into the top sorry me old son but hey well done.

23/07/07

Been a fairly busy couple of weeks on the voting front.  I've put together the complete lists so far in each category and they are now on the website.

06/07/07

Finally caught up on all the votes and the most up to date TOP 50 in each category is on the site.  I stress TOP 50 because I still get comments like, why is Jon Bon Jovi not nominated?  Well he is nominated  and just for the record he is at 54 on the singers list.  That means he's not in the top 50 and only the top 50 get posted on the top 50 page get it!    Reason for only the top 50 is that there are so many nominations  it would be too long to put on just one page.  The next time I do an update I'll put up pages for each category and  the whole list of nominations in each category.  Also as promised I'll do  a page of voters comments, some funny some of encouragement and some well lets say different.  Again while I think of it on the subject of comments if you want a reply leave an email address.  Also no point leaving a email address but no comment.

Main change is at the top of the Bands list but not a hell of a lot of changes on the rest of the top 50's.

28/05/07

Quick update, finally after oh what nearly 7 months at the top of the Bands list, Iron Maiden have been overtaken by both Led Zep and Metallica.  The Irons still top the Singer and Bassists list as before.  This last week has seen another shed load of votes come in, probably one of the highest  in any week so far.  Several votes for  newly nominated Y & T and the members there of.  ( The dickhead who left his name as Mike Hunt location the Moon was discounted, as is  anyone voting more than once from the same IP address)  Y & T  are  band I had forgotten about so will have to dig out the CD and give it a listen again.  One of the main reasons for the list is to give exposure to little known or forgotten bands  so  folk can  search through the lists then go and check out the bands.

I will be moving at the end of June and will be without "tinternet" until 17th.  ( Ah the deprivation)  So don't panic if there is no news or updates for a while.

20/05/07

Most up to date to 50's now posted on line.  Looking pretty much the same as the previous list with a few new names and a couple up moves up or down.  The real changes are further down the list.

13/05/07

Time seems to have flown the past few weeks cant believe its been so long since last news flash.  So anyway, the votes still keep on rolling in and it looks like the unlikely is now most likely. Maiden's long reign at the top of most of the lists looks to be coming to an end.  A few months ago I was going to stick my neck out and say Steve Harris would come top of the Bassists list as he was so far ahead, now I'm not so sure.  This is the main reason I haven't updated the list lately as I was waiting to see if the Irons would go from any of the top spots but just as Bruce and his mates are getting caught another few votes gets them away again.  Apart from that there has been a lot of votes for the top 20 or so in most of the lists with Rush and all its band members getting quite a few along with Bon Jovi, Metallica, Megadeath and Judas Priest getting the lions share of the votes.  I'll get an up to date top 50 in all the lists posted by the end of the week even if there is no change!

02/04/07

Latest up to date top 50's now posted on the website.  The least movement is on the singers list, with the top 19 all still in the same places, having said that Freddie Mercury is now the closest he's ever been to catching Bruce .

12/03/07

The total lists for each category (including the number of votes) at the half way stage is now on the website.  (OK a week early but never mind)  Each category has its own page.  The Bands category has the most nominations so far and the bassists the least. The guitarists although they don't have the most nominations they do have the most votes.  (This has since been removed to avoid confusion)

There has been a total of 32864 votes altogether so far.  Some of the band information is still missing as I haven't got round to filling in all the blanks but will do so before the end of the survey.  Keep them  votes coming!

Also forgot to mention last month a couple of other websites that have promoted the survey, www.wallofmetal.com and www.metallica-central.com  please check out both and remember if you would like to promote the survey with a return link or if you would just like to have a link  on our links page drop me a mail with the details and I'll see what I can do.

05/03/07

WOW! Hardy believable that its been a month since the last update and that its March already.  This  means that its also very nearly half way though the survey!  So how has February changed things, yeah you know already not a lot.  Still the top few get more and more votes pushing them further in front of the rest,  the front runners have all had the leads cut quite a lot but are still hanging on in there.  Since its nearly half way, only 2 weeks to go.  I've had loads of emails asking the same thing, i.e. just how may votes do the artists actually have, so I'm going to do a half way house list.  That is a top 20 in  each category including the number of votes for each nomination, also will include say the number 50, 100, 200 or so just to give some idea of what proportion of votes go where.   To give you some idea just now say that artist at number 200 in the singers list got 50 votes in a week (not likely but you never know) then he or she would might move up 40/50 places.  However if a group in the top 5 got 50 votes in a week they might not move at all, therefore we have the kind of boring situation were not in, not a lot of movement at the top end of the lists and all the action further down.  Right that's enough crap from me for a while keep the faith and look out for the half way house list in 2 weeks!

05/02/07

Finally got the round to posting the most up to date lists on the website a little later than expected but better late than never.  Its still amazes me despite how many votes I've put in this month that there is still so little movement in the top of any of the categories the leaders just get further and further ahead.  I would say even with 8 months to go its almost a cert that Steve Harris will end up number one in the Bassist category as he is so far out of sight of the rest its unreal.  Maiden still dominate the lists but their lead in the singers and groups list is getting shorter every day and if I were to include the data from Wonderlist they would have dropped to 5 the groups list so its not over by a long way yet.  The groups category is the longest list with the most individual nominations on it.  Earlier I said there was several bands who have all their band members nominated well now there are also a few families who have had their members nominated, the most interesting of which so far is the Van Halen's who could have both brothers Eddie and Alex in the top 10 soon if Alex gets a few more votes.  Other family members in the top 50 are the Young's from AC/DC.

29/01/07

Almost February already, what happened to January?  Well anyway it has been  quieter voting wise but slightly still there was more than  expected over the festive period. Its still pretty hard to see any real difference to the lists as far as positions go but the gap between the top 10 or so in each category is a lot less than before. Most voted for this month were Eddy Van Halen and AC/DC.   The most up to date list will be online sometime this week.

Still getting plenty of great and also slightly weird comments  along with the voting so I thought I might create a new page made up of the best comments from the voters.

18/12/06

Latest and also the  last update of 2006 posted.  The category with the least movement is the bass players it is almost exactly the same.  So a Merry Xmas and a Rockin new year to everyone who has supported the survey especially to all of you that have taken the time to vote.  Total votes  in the first three months is 4961 which is slightly less than hoped for but given the time of year I guess that's still pretty good.  Remember you can still vote at anytime during the rest of December but the list wont be updated again until around the end of January 2007.

11/12/06

Ok quick update.  The guitarists category is still the closest and the top two have swapped places several times since the last list was posted.  Maidens lead in the groups category has been shorted a bit and also Bruce has been caught up in the singers category.  I have listed the survey in Wonderlist, Rate my Music, Rate it all and Yahoo Answers giving each category a separate listing.  These  votes will be included in the final count but will not add them until the end.  I will up date The list at the end of the week and this will probably be the last update this year.  It is difficult to estimate how may votes there will be over the festive period but I'm guessing not a lot as most folk will be Christmas shopping, avoiding Christmas shopping, downloading the latest Britney Spears photos or just getting pissed and rocking out as you should at this time of year.

25/11/06

Stop the presses hold the phones, there has been a change at the top of  TWO of the categories.  John Bonham has been knocked of the top spot which he has occupied since week one.  Neil pert has taken over the number one position albeit by just a single vote.  Same story in the guitarists category with Jimmy Page going slightly in front of Hendrix.  Since its been a few weeks since the top 50 has been updated there has been quite a bit of movement overall since last update.  The yoyo group just now would seem to be Trivium who have been in and out of the top 50 twice and if memory serves they are the only ones who have done this twice, maybe the fact that they are currently touring with list dominators Maiden has got them that extra few votes.  NWOBHM  greats Judas Priest have also had a lot of votes recently for their band members.

21/11/06

They say no news is good news, so good news there is no news! Well pretty much no news accept that the voting is sticking to the trend that  the artists at the top of each of the lists are getting more votes and pretty much staying as they were.  This of course means that it is getting more difficult to get into  the top 50.  More and more artists are being added to the end of each list and it is the ones in mid list  that go up and down the most.

06/11/06

After a quiet week last week there has been a real shed load of votes this week.  Most voted for this week was Pink Floyd and the members thereof.  Also finally after over 3 weeks of no change  there has been a change at the top of one of the categories with Slash been overtaken by both Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page at  the top of the guitarists list.

The most surprising nomination so far I would have to say is in the Singers category and that is Frank Sinatra?  Now don't ask I have no idea why either!  The country where the most voters have come from so far is USA.

As you may have noticed I have added a heavy metal news feed from topix.net, which is updated live from their website.

THE list on the website seems to be causing some confusion so just to  confirm that it is only the top 50 in each category that is posted on line and that every nomination is on the complete list and on the database.  If your nomination does not appear in the online list it only means that they haven't made it into the top 50 so far.  If you would like to know where your nomination is on the complete list drop me a email and I'll happily let you know, but please don't ask for more that a couple of artists.  Also on the subject of email if you want a reply to your comments please email them or leave your email address or else I cant reply.  Thanks for all comments especially pointing out any artist spelling mistakes,  my bad guilty as charged, will make the changes along with posting the up to date list ASAP.

The voting form does collect your IP address so anyone submitting more that one entry will be discounted,  I understand that there may be more than one person using the same PC so if this is the case again email first to let me know, otherwise only one voting form will be included.

30/10/06

Slightly less votes this week so yet again no change at the top of each of the lists.  It is now quite close at the top of the guitarist list as Slash's lead has been well slashed!  The most voted for artist is Steve Harris who still is way out in front in the bassist category.  Several groups now have had all their band members nominated in the artists categories including Queen, Maiden, Def Leppard, Metallica, The Who, Rush, Dream Theatre, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.  The longest list so far is the Groups category and the shortest is the Drummers.  There was a total of 1891 nominations in the first month, hopefully we can add a couple of 0's to the end of that by 15/09/07.  Thanks again to all that have voted so far a please please please help spread the word about the survey and let everybody you can know about the rock gods website.  The most up to date list will be posted soon.  I can also email a PDF version of THE list if you are having difficulty reading it on the website.

23/10/06

Steady stream of votes again this week.  Not much change at the top of the lists once again.  Bruce Dickinson still a way clear of Freddie in the singers category.  Maiden still well in front of the groups.  Slash's lead is cut to just a couple of votes in the guitarist list.  Steve Harris still well in command of the Bassists with three times the votes of his nearest rival.  John Bonham still tops the drummers list as he has done since day one but the next three all have had lots of votes this week.  Since last week Rush has now entered the top 20  from nowhere, that will teach me to keep my trap shut eh?  Thanks again to everyone who has voted and for your interesting and amusing comments.  Keep on rockin!

16/10/06

A flood of votes over the weekend  from across the globe with nominations from Spain, Germany, Italy, Finland, New Zeeland, Norway, Serbia-Belgrade, Slovenia, Denmark and the Czech Republic.  Iron Maiden are very much the fans favourite just now with Maiden getting three times as many votes as their nearest rival.  Also Bruce Dickinson is  top of the singers category, Steve Harris is a mile in front of the Bassist category and the other members of Maiden are in the top 10 of their respective categories.   Several other bands have more than one member nominated in the artists lists yet Rush who has 2 band members in the top 3 are themselves as a band only currently 153, how strange is that?  Also in the past few days Paradise Lost have come from the almost the bottom of the band list to be in the top 10.  I will up date the online list again at the end of the week and will keep the previous list online so you can see how the list  has changed and evolved.

13/10/06

After getting a mention last week in metal fury the Rock Gods Survey has now been supported  in Hair-Band Magazine www.hair-band.com,  Heavy Metal Resource www.heavymetalresource.com , Melodic Rock www.melodicrock.com  and Total Rock Radio www.totalrock.com for which they deserve a big thank you.

For visitors returning recently you will probably notice quite a few changes to the website and hopefully it is now a lot more attractive to voters.

THE List is growing ever longer by the minute, but still there is little change at the top in most of the categories.

08/10/06

A big thank you to Deb and Bill at Metal Fury magazine who have added their support to the rockgods survey.  They have voted themselves and also added a link to this site on the front page of their online metal mag.  Why not check out Metal Fury at www.metalfury.com

This has been another steady week on the voting front but I still need lots more so be sure to tell everybody you can about this site.  There has also been some movement at the top of each voting category and enough votes to compile the first online top 20 in each category.

01/10/06

First I would like to say a big thank you to everybody who has taken the time to send in their nominations and also a thank you for  your emails and messages about the list.

There has been a steady stream of nominations over the past few days and the latest up to date version of the list is now online.  Its still very early days yet but so far the Groups and Singers list has the most number of artists on it but there is no real change at the top  on any of the categories  so far.
